As we do orientations and give lessons at Alta View Golf, there is a really common death move we see over and over and over - a bad takeaway! If you move the club head wrong during the takeaway, then the whole rest of the golf swing is a recovery motion. Swing faults like loss of posture, early hip extension, and flipping the club can all readily be traced to the body recovering from a bad takeaway motion.
Trackman can now automatically draw a line for you on the down the line video that shows the position of the club shaft at setup. You should see the clubhead move on that line to then end of the takeaway (the point at which the hands reack the outside of the trail leg). It is super common to see golfers that bring the club head way under or over that line. When that happens you have to recover from being out of position and that adds complexity to the swing.
In this video we show you how easy it is to do a proper takeaway when you simply use the proper muscles and have a good model of what you are trying to accomplish.
When you practice using shot analysis in trackman performance studio, the software can simplify your ability to track your takeaway automatically drawing the line on teh shaft at setup.
Simply select the green box in the video analysis frame as seen in this picture. Enable the various lines you would like to see, but enabling the shaft angle line will really help you see if your takeaway motion is correct.
A second set of eyes can always be helpful as well. Reach out to us for a lesson and let's help make sure you are starting the swing right.
